About the Painting

This surf art oil painting first began in December 2009 as a live painting demonstration for the Surfing Heritage Foundation store in Costa Mesa, CA.  Jay began painting while doing a meet and greet with the crowds.  

Friend and Surf Artist Legend Phil Roberts showed up with his daughter Portia to hang out with Jay during the demo and offered some tips and art advice (shown below)

There wasnโ€™t enough time at the demo to complete it to Jayโ€™s satisfaction, so it sat undone. Forgotten for years until November 2014 when after Jay moved into his new studio he found the piece and completed it. The momentum from the past carried through to a moment in the present.
