I had just gotten back from Hawaii for the first time when I finished this surf art oil painting. I had the concept in mind before the trip.  I asked my now wife Chelsea to pose for some reference shots which I put a trippy  spin on.
It had started to come together but I couldn’t decide on the color palette before I left for Hawaii. I also was stuck on the texture of the water surface that I wanted to achieve. I knew I wanted to have the water alive and glimmering. I wanted the figure artistically distorted in a surreal way that seemed believable but not realistic in order to draw the viewers eyes along a compositional path.
By the time I arrived home from Oahu, I was immensely inspired from the tropical colors that I was surrounded by. Emotions were flowing through my very being and I knew what I needed to do to complete the vision.
I just kept wanting to dive into my memories and connect and thus “Second Glance” was complete.
