I was so stoked to speak to the art students at my old middle school today. It was so awesome to meet the kids and answer their questions and tell & show them what I do.
It was pretty trippy to walk the halls and see the gym that I had my first school dances in and remember the days/months of after-school detention that I got. Funny how some memories lie dormant until we revisit them through our senses.
One of my most influential teachers, was my art teacher there. I don’t remember how to spell her name anymore, Ms. Gerbrick I believe. She made me question what good art was and it probably took me years to understand the seeds of creative that she planted in my mind. She really helped me. I hope that my little presentation today paid an honorable tribute to her & helped the boys and girls to express themselves with confidence and fulfillment. Maybe some of them left with inspiration or empowerment that will stay with them for years to come. I hope so.
