It’s not often that so many of our musical friends tour together on this level. Â So when Jack Johnson, G Love and ALO all offered us VIP tickets to come to their July 13th 2010 show in Holmdel, NJ, you bet we weren’t going to miss it!
We were so appreciative to have a couple handfuls of VIP passes from the bands. My brother Eric and my sister-in-law Tiffany are normally so busy raising my nieces and running The Karate Dojo that they rarely have time to just take off, so this was really special for us to be able to share this experience with them.
Also joining Chelsea and I was our Public Relations Director and friend Gabi Nickas and our friend and co-owner of Original Skateboards, Scott Imbrie as well as our friends from Florida, Kevin and Yvette Murray and our friends from Echo Movement Dave and Stephen Fowler.
Our dear friend Jenna who manages ALO got us parking next to the tour buses which is always sweeeeeeet. As we get out of my Jeep, a golf cart with security at the wheel pull up. Â They approach us and said to me, “Are you Mr. Alders?”….”Uh yeah“, I replied…”Here’s your tickets & passes sir”…..(Sidenote: Uh,ok, I’ve had a lot of great welcomes when entering a venue, but that by far was one of the coolest.)
We ran into our friend Garrett (G. Love) by the buses and got him one of my new surf art shirts and caught up a bit and then proceeded to grab drinks near the VIP area where our friend Quincy Mumford was performing.
Jack, G Love and Zach did an impromptu performance near the VIP tent before the show started. To my surprise, G Love was wearing the surf art shirt I just gave him. He’s so supportive and such a freakin’ cool dude.  All these musicians are just the most down-to-Earth folks around and talented beyond belief.
All the performances were awesome, as they always are. During one of the opening acts, Jack Johnson chatted with us a bit while he was holding one of his little children. Â It’s nice to see how humble and laid-back he is despite his fame.
Thank you so much to our friends in the bands, the crew and management for another memorable experience and the inspiration it brought me. Â It meant so much to me to be able to share this night with people I love. I hope I am able to reciprocate courtesies and kindness back to them soon.
