Sea Quell
“Sea Quell” – Alders continues exploring the textures and formations of the sea at the golden hours of the beach with this new painting.
This contemporary artwork pushes boundaries beyond where Alders work has gone before. The artist calls upon the use of countless layers of thick heavy impasto textures and a more edgy approach.
The metallic paints shimmer upon the cratered surface of the piece making the ocean feel as though it is breathing life into the room.
Although a bold leap from the more detailed and rendered pieces that embody the vast majority of Alders’s work, this is clearly still an “Alders” piece.

“My family and I are fortunate enough to live near the beach and we get there as much as we can. I love teaching my children about the ocean and the waves and how the elements of nature all work together. Seeing them play at the sea shore, splashing around and climbing on the same rocky jetties that I climbed on when I was still a kid fills me up.
My last piece, “Ripple Effect“, was very much inspired by the ordinary but spectacular scenes of beach living. Those magic hours of light at sunrise and sunset really forces a pause into your step. For this piece, I wanted to continue this theme to see where it would take me.
I treasure the practice of learning and evolving as an artist and keeping things fresh by nudging myself beyond my comfort zones. As part of this process, I have been experimenting with different mediums and painting techniques and the use of mixed media and collage in my paintings.
After showing my work in New York City last fall, I wanted to see what a more edgy, almost street art inspired view of my vision might look like.
So for this painting, I globe it on thick and had a lot of fun. I hope it shows.”
