I've been trying to catch myself when the ego takes over. Not always successfully, but we are all a work in progress aren't we? The next time you hear yourself declaring “I am sad” or “I am so stressed” or “I am _______”….realize that I am not those things. I am merely the silent witness to those emotional conversations.
The next time that happens to you, ask yourself instead, who is speaking?…Who is listening? Whom is this dialog between?
I am learning to be thankful for those feelings whereas they are nice enough to identify themselves to me throughout the day. Once I am aware of who's in my spiritual driver's seat at any given time, I can make a change.
