Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter is happy to announce the date for the 11th Annual Art Gala. The event will be on Thursday, May 19 from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Powerhouse Community Center in Del Mar, 1658 Coast Blvd. Set in a picture perfect oceanfront setting, the gala will feature beautiful art, delectable food and drink, musical entertainment and coastal conservation highlights.
Attendees of this environmentally inspired event will enjoy silent and live auctions of unique ocean-themed artwork from renowned local and national artists, in addition to one-of-a-kind surfboards. Recent featured artists include Andy Davis, Jason Samarin, Wade Koniakowsky, Jeff Yeomans, Neil Bociek, Jay Alders, Josh Agle (Shag), Stephen King, Donald Miralle, Skye walker, Seth Thompson, Kevin Roche, Susan Wickstrand-Roche, Myles McGuiness, Robb Havassy and many more. Last year Wade Koniakowsky painted a piece live at the event that was auctioned later in the evening. Food was provided by Jimbo’s….Naturally and Yapo’s Home Catering, fine wine from Barefoot Wineries and San Diego’s best beer from Stone Brewing Co.
Proceeds from the art gala’s ticket sales and auctions benefit the Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter, helping fund the group’s local programs including water quality testing, education, outreach, beach cleanups, pollution monitoring and advocacy efforts. Last year’s event raised more than $20,000, aiding the chapter’s Kids For Clean Water educational outreach program, Blue Water Task Force water monitoring, Ocean Friendly Gardens and Know your H2O programs, the Rise Above Plastics campaign and much more.

“Many surfers consider riding waves to be more like an artistic expression session than an athletic activity. So I am not surprised that the Surfrider Foundation’s once-a-year Art Gala is a magnet for those who appreciate and want to acquire top artists’ ocean-inspired art.’” said Manase Mansur, 2010 Chair of Surfrider Foundation’s San Diego Chapter.
Tickets for the Art Gala are on sale at www.surfridersd.org/artgala_2011.php and include a grazing dinner, complimentary drinks, entertainment and access to bid on and own beautiful works of art. Tickets to this exclusive event are limited to the first 150 people who purchase them, so people interested in attending are encouraged to purchase tickets now.
