On this past Wednesday, I went to NYC for an appointment and left extra early so I could go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of my favorite places in New York
It’s important for me as an artist to constantly be on a path of curiosity and inspiration. My day’s journey led me to a painting by one of my favorite fine artists, Salvador Dali.
It was a beautiful painting, called “The Crucifixion” It was newly hung and when I turned the corner and saw it , it captivated me. I stood in the hallway and stared at it for probably twenty minutes.
Im not Christian nor religious, but I’ve always been intrigued by the mystery that many religious and spiritual pieces of art contains. I looked in awe at the beauty of the figures, the textural qualities of fabrics, the details in the hands and feet, fingernails and skintones, the mastery of technique and the imagination Dali had been blessed with.
For me even to imagine being able to create art half as good someday that moves people like this piece did to me is part of my burning passion as an artist.
I wish we could all rekindle that sense of beauty and inspiration in all that we do and “raise the bar” for ourselves.
Thank you Salvador.
