The official 311 Tour Poster for The Capitol Theatre Show on October 30, 2017 is here. The surreal underwater setting of the art is inspired by the historic theatre which was built in 1926 during the Art Deco movement. The theatre is well known for the many legendary bands like The Grateful Dead that played the regularly and it’s trippy light shows.
“Upon doing some research before starting this piece, it seemed that the light shows were an integral part of the theatre’s history. The pictures I saw looked so mesmerizing and aquatic in nature, so I got this idea to render the scene flooded with water in this apocalyptic underwater dreamscape. I absolutely adore Art Deco and Art Nouveau and incorporated elements from that era into the frame and imagery. Mermaids were a popular iconic figure in the 1920’s and they’ve fascinated me as a subject for years. It gave me a great reason to include an intricate weaving of sea creatures and play with the atmospheric lighting with the coloring. I went a bit overboard with the details, but I think it was well worth the effort”. – Jay Alders
This is the second poster that Jay Alders has done for 311 this year, check out the other one here from the Asbury Park show this past summer.
